PHILIP1 DAVIS, HARTFORD FOUNDER was born abt. 1630 in England, and died bef. 22 Oct 1689 in Hartford, CT (inventory). He married ESTHER COLEMAN abt. 1654 in Hartford, CT, daughter of THOMAS COLEMAN and _______ _______. She was born abt. 1637 in Wethersfield, CT, and died aft. 06 Nov 1689 in prob Hartford, CT (made administrator of husband’s estate).

Little is known about Philip Davis: it is unknown when he arrived in the American colonies, or when he arrived in Hartford, but it was in or before 1637, as he served in the Pequot War of that year, and he did hold land in 1639/40, his home lot being on the south side of the road from George Steele’s to the South Meadow. He was made freeman in 1656, and was chosen the as chimney viewer in 1653, Constable in 1660, was selectman in 1667, 1671, 1675, 1680, and 1684.

The inventory of his estate was made 22 October 1689.

Genealogy: As Philip Davis had only daughters, there is no genealogy of the Davis line.
