JOHN1 WILCOX, HARTFORD FOUNDER was born in England, and died 01 Oct 1651 in Hartford, CT (probate). He married MARY ______. She was born in England, and died abt. Dec 1668 in Hartford, CT.

The ancestry, origin, and date of emigration to the American colonies of John Wilcox (Wilcock) is unknown. He was certainly in Hartford by 1639 where in the land inventory of February 1639/40 he originally held: two acres on which his dwelling house stood with other outhouses, yards, and gardens, located on the east bank of the Little River, on the road from his property to that of Founder William Blumfield; four acres in the Forty Acres; ten acres lying beyond Rocky Hill; and three acres in the North Meadow. He later acquired an additional 8 parcels of land.

He was surveyor of highways in 1643 and 1644, and selectman in 1650.

His will was dated 24 July 1651, and he died 1 October 1651.
