BENJAMIN1 MUNN, HARTFORD FOUNDER was born abt. 1624 in England, and died Nov 1675 in Springfield, MA. He married ABIGAIL BURT 12 Apr 1649 in Springfield, MA. She was born abt. 1623 in Haberton, Devon, England, and died 06 Feb 1691/92 in Springfield, MA.

The date of birth, origin, and date of arrival in the American colonies of Benjamin Munn is unknown. He was in Hartford by 1637, as he served in the Pequot War of that year. He was one of the inhabitants of Hartford “who were Granted lotts to have onely at the Towne’s Courtesie wth liberty to fetch wood & keepe Swine or Cowes was By proportion on the Common”. In the Hartford land inventory of February 1639/40 he owned: two roods on which his dwelling house stood located on the North side of the road from Centinel Hill to the Cow Pasture, amongst a strip of houses assigned to unmarried men; two acres in the West Field; four acres on the east side of the Great River; two roods in the Soldiers’ Field; and three acres in the Pine Field.

He was viewer of chimneys in Hartford in 1647, and removed to Springfield, Massachusetts in 1649. He died in Springfield in November 1675.
