SAMUEL1 GARDNER, HARTFORD FOUNDER was born abt. 1615 in England, and died 22 Nov 1696 in Hadley, MA. He married (1) ________ _______. He married (2) ELIZABETH ______ bef. 1648. She died 21 Jun 1676 in Hadley, MA.

The origins of Samuel Gardner and his exact date of arrival at Hartford are unknown. He was there by 1639/40, when the town granted him lots “if the Townsmen see no just cause to the contrary, and they will accept of them uppon such tearmes as the Townsmen shall see cause to propose.” These lots were a home lot of two roods on the east side of the road from Centinel Hill to the Cow Pasture and two acres on the east side of the Great River, both of which he sold to Benjamin Burr.

He removed to Wethersfield by 1646, then removed to Hadley, Massachusetts in 1659.
