The Founders of Hartford

William Pratt, an original proprietor and settler, supposed to have been brother of John; his home-lot in 1639 was on the east side of the road to the COW Pasture. Served in the Pequot War; in 1645 sold his land to Matthew Beckwith, and removed to Saybrook ; he was deputy from there 1666-1676; Lieut. in 1661. He m. Elizabeth, dart. of John Clark, of Saybrook.

Some articles written about William Pratt in England and his sons Lieut can be found at The Jared Pratt Family Association. William Pratt and John Pratt who helped settle Connecticut with Thomas Hooker in the early 1600s. We also recently completed a 15 minute professional video describing their lives and journeys, with pictures from Baldock, Cambridge and Stevenage where Rev. William Pratt lived in the 1500s and early 1600s.
