The Founders of Hartford
John Holloway came to Boston in the "Elizabeth," from London, 1635, aged 21, in the same ship with
Clement Chaplin, William Ruscoe, and others. He served in the Pequot War; granted 50 acres for his services in 1671.
He was. a proprietor "by the town's courtesie" in 1639; his home-lot was on the east side of the road to the Cow
Pasture, on the point made by the junction of the two highways now Main and Village Streets, near the Pound ; signed
the agreement for planting Norwalk, June 19, 1650, but did not go; he m. Mary - all. 1663. Freed from watching and
warding March 2, 1670-1 died, s. p., Oct. 13, 1684 ; inv. £41. 3. Left all his property to the First Church
in Hartford.
