The Founders of Hartford
James Cole, a cooper, an original proprietor, Hartford, 1639, when his house-lot was on the east side of
Main Street, near the South Green, running back to the street afterwards called Cole St.; he had another house-lot in
1639, on the east aide of Meeting-House Yard. He m. in England, Ann Edwards, widow, the mother of William Edwards; and
he came to New England with his wife, her son William, and his dau., Abigail, by a former wife. He d. in 1652; inv.
