The Founders of Hartford
Thomas Barnes, Hartford, 1639, a "proprietor by the town's courtesy," Feb., 1639-40, having six acres allotted
to him. He lived on the corner of the highways now Albany Avenue and High St. He served in the Pequot War, 1637 ;
granted fifty acres for his services, 1671. He removed to Farmington; sergeant of the trainband there, 1651;
joined Farmington church about Jan. 30, 1652-3. His wife, Mary, was the dau. of Thomas Andrus, or Andrews, of
Farmington. He d. about 1689 ; will dated June 9, 1688.
